  • The 71st edition, March 2012 , is up at The Dragonfly Woman
  • After the 71st the Circus of the Spineless seems to have gone dormant.

For the Herp lovers: House of Herps. The monthly blog carnival devoted exclusively to reptiles and amphibians and has been extinct since March 2011.

  • The 16th edition, March, will be hosted by Worm Salad
  • The 17th edition, April, will be hosted by TBD

What is Google Getting?

That is, what is Google getting from Starbucks as part of the new free WI-FI deal that they negotiated?

The Mac Observer suggests two possibilities:

Most likely, money is changing hands, and Google will have access to more information about our Web browsing habits that it can in turn use to generate ad revenue.

Hell, Google might be paying Starbucks, they want the data!

Oh yea, please don’t think Google is the all glowing new kid that is going to make your internet life just perfect if only they came to your town. In just the little time they have been in the provisioning business they have morphed into a legacy carrier. We still need an internet provider that will deliver us unencumbered end to end service to which we can connect devices of our choice and deliver or access services of our choice.

That carrier does not appear to be Google!

An Alarming Misuse of a Statistic

A sample size of one is great if the total population is also one. However, as the population size grows a sample of one becomes rapidly useless.

Unless you decide that your single case is the most important:

While I occasionally use my iPhone timer, especially when dealing with my children, I highly depend on the alarm section. And isn’t the driving force behind Control Center to give users quick access to the most used functions of their device?

Let’s reduce the validity of this case by a quick 50%: my experience is just the opposite. I use the timer frequently, multiple times per week, and use the alarm? Well, I think I used it once in June but can’t be sure. It was long ago.

It might be that Apple knows exactly what they are doing, that they have studied the usage of the clock functions and know that the timer is more heavily used.

I am happy with this default. On the other hand, I sympathize with those that aren’t. It could have been me that was unhappy.

Now, what would be cool for Apple to do is to make the default clock icon/function user configurable. Then both Brent and I could be happy!
