ROTK: Extended Edition 5 comments

Will it be ready for XMAS? Of course, why el$e is Jackson working on it now:

“I’m going to work on an extended DVD version, though I don’t think all of that will make it in, because the pacing would be really weird,” Jackson told the magazine. “But there’s some good stuff that’s not in the book.”

I don’t know as I want much good stuff that was not in the book. As much as I loved the movie I am still smarting over the missing Scouring of the Shire.

I think the scouring of the shire needs to be in the extended edition but also i believe people should be able to know what happened to sauruman after he was locked in his tower, I mean eventualy something would happen he would have to come out or do something eventualy.

I thought the swcouring of the Shire was great in the book, it would have been a great emotional loss for the audience, judging from the love of the Shire location. It also shows that Saruman did not just fade into the background after the Ents..that was a bit too easy. He was desperate so he hit the innocent, unsuspecting hobbits- sad really. I also love the Faramir/Eowyn relationship…that would have been great to see, rather than it just being hinted at. I wish Faramir had more to do in the movie, cos he’s my favorite character from the books. But, i’m sure Peter Jackson will make the footage not based on the book a piece of art too.

If they added the Scouring of the Shire, which was a great part of the book, to the movie – It might habe made it too long. When you think about it, it would have been one hardship after another after another – that’s why jackson cut it – and it’s not in EE either – can you imagine all that construction and digital effects for a scene that wasn’t in the movie that most peopel saw?

I can see why they didn’t put the scouring of the Shire in the movies, because it sort of countered the climatic ending of Frodo finally destroying the Ring. I would like to see it in the extended edition, though.
